Description
The 1638 ‘Corrected’ Cambridge Bible
[Bible in English.] The Holy Bible… Cambridge; Tho: Buck and Roger Daniel [1638].
“The authentique corrected Cambridge Bible, revised Mandato Regio, by the learned Doctor Ward, Doctor Goad of Hadley, Mr. Boyse, Mr. Mead, &c, and printed by the elaborate industry of Thomas Buck, Esquire and Mr. Roger Daniel in folio in 1638” (William Kilburne’s tract Dangerous Errors in Several Late Printed Bibles… 1659, reprinted in the Introduction to Loftie’s Century of Bibles, 1872, p. 35).
“In this edition, thus favorably noticed by Kilburne, the work of correction that was begun in the Cambridge 1629 Bible was carried further. The revisers took special care to render uniform the use of italics” (Herbert, p. 176).
This remained the standard text until the 1762 publication of Dr. Paris and Dr. Therhold’s Cambridge Bible.
The occasional small stain or light soiling; occasional short tear or repair. That said, overall, this is a very fresh and lovely copy. Very comfortably margined; a tall copy.
