Ancient Bible

Calvin’s Institutes

The Institution of Christian Religion, written in Latine by M. John Calvine, and translated into English according to the Author's Last Edition, by Thomas Norton...London: Printed by Henrie Middleton for William Norton, 1582.

First edition thus small quarto size, signed mostly in eights. A - 4H8, 4I7, (lacks 4I8 - 4k of Back Tables). Text alone foliated: 1-507 (i.e 1014 pages); then extensive Tables without foliation or pagination.

General title-page soiled, tired, repaired with some early manuscript on recto and verso.

Very minor soiling or browning. Some damp and other staining, but mostly very nice. Well margined. Modern library binding. Overall a very good copy of one of the most influential books in history, the summa of Calvinism.

Please Note:  This is a low-resolution photo, which shows the format, but makes reading the text nearly impossible.  In reality, the text of these Bibles is large enough and clear enough to read very easily.
