The true 1613 folio edition of the King James Bible. In 72 lines per full column, rather than the 59 lines of the 1611 and 1613/11 (Herbert 309 and 319). Old pencil note on verso of front free endpaper erroneously calls this the “Fourth King James Folio.” It is the true 1613 Second Folio edition and third folio issue overall, after Herbert 309 and 319. Collates complete except for last leaf of Revelation which is supplied in expert facsimile. Has Speed’s Genealogies; no map. Leaf size: 390 x 250 mm.

 

General title-page soiled and mounted; New Testament title-page repaired with old holograph notes on verso with ink show-through. Some marginal repairs and extensions to early preliminaries. Internally mostly quite gorgeous.

 

Old calf over pasteboards, worn or perished at extremities, rebacked. Binding rough, but strong and appropriate. All edges red. Marbled endpapers, hinges strengthened.

 

Ex-Duke of Sussex; ex-William Ewing (noted as a duplicate). Ex-Howell. Laid in is an old typed description from the legendary John Howell Books of San Francisco, which mistakenly states this as STC 2225: it is STC 2226.
