Octavo. One of the earliest editions of the King James version in octavo format.
General title-page dated 1612; New Testament title-page date 1613; colophon dated 1613. A Sternhold and Hopkins Metrical Psalter bound in at back dated 1612. Wants the Apocrypha. Trimmed a little close; occasionally touching text. Ruled in red. General title-page mounted; lacks preliminary leaf A2; A3, first leaf of Genesis, supplied and mounted on a stub; New Testament title mounted.
Full dark blind-paneled morocco, worn at extremities. Red morocco lettering piece. All edges with old red.
Text generally quite clean.
A v ery pleasing example of a highly important Bible: the King James in its earliest hand-held version.
Herbert 321 (points correct to this number, though sheets of these very early octavo printings are often mixed [Hebert #s 315, 316, 321 and 326]).
