1492 Latin Bible
[Bible in Latin.] [Biblia Latina. Venice: Hieronymus de Paganinis
Brixiensis,
7 September 1492.]
The second edition of the Latin Bible in octavo format. Edited by
Petrus Angelus de Monte Ulmi. (The earliest edition in octavo was
Basel: Froben, 1491 [Hain 3107, Copinger 90].)
Textually complete from Prologue through colophon; wanting the front
and back tables. Text in double columns. No foliation. Running
headlines on rectos and the occasional verso.
Text generally very fresh and bright. Very nicely margined. Printed
marginal references and section-letters. A few marginal manuscript
notes in an early hand.
First leaf reinforced at gutter and with a couple of small insect
damage holes. Very minor damp at front. Leaf dd3 with minor paper
repair. Over-opened at a2 in general Prologue.
Old full calf, worn but sound.
A very desirable incunable octavo Latin Bible.
Darlow and Moule 6087. Hain 3114. Copinger 95. Ex-John Howell with a typed card from him laid in.
Please Note: This is a low-resolution photo, which shows the format, but makes reading the text nearly impossible. In reality, the text of these Bibles is large enough and clear enough to read very easily.
