GREATSITE.COM Presents ![]() [Tyndale, William.] A Brief Description of the Sacraments …compyled by the godly man Wyllyam Tyndall. London: Robert Stoughton First edition of this title (1548), never printed in Tyndale’s lifetime. Provenance: J.W. or T.W. Bayntun, Grays Inn (ownership signature, 18 th Century); Sidney Graves, Duke of Hamilton (black and white armorial bookplate); Jonathan Byrd (gilt bookplate). Twelvemo size in eights: A-E8 finis, complete. Some early ink notes, manicules and underlining. Nicely margined. A wonderful copy of an inexpresably important Reformation treatise. In A Brief Description (or Declaration) of the Sacraments Tyndale argues that it is the inner faith of the communicant which makes the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, a doctrine which Sir Thomas More furiously denied, and for which John Frith died. Full hard grain blue-black morocco, gilt. Marbled ends. Please Note: This is a low-resolution photo, which shows the format, but makes reading the text nearly impossible. In reality, the text of these Bibles is large enough and clear enough to read very easily. |
